Tsinghua University (simplified Chinese: 清华大学; traditional Chinese: 清華大學; pinyin: Qīnghuá Dàxué; EFEO: Ts'inghoua Tasiue, English Tsinghua University) is a Chinese university located in Beijing, considered one of the most prestigious in the republic popular of China. When it was created in 1911, it was a preparation school for Chinese wishing to pursue a graduate degree in American universities. In 1925, Tsinghua expanded into a university and now offers four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor's degrees) and graduate degrees (master's and doctoral degrees). Created in 1911, during the Xinhai Revolution led by Sun Yatsen which brought down the last Emperor of the Qing Dynasty and led to the establishment of the Republic of China, Tsinghua University originally provided education focused on scientific disciplines, although there were also departments of human sciences. His field of predilection was therefore the training of engineers. Following the reorganization of the universities in 1952, Tsinghua no longer had a department dedicated to literary studies, certain branches of teaching in basic sciences were reduced, making Tsinghua an establishment much more specifically focused on engineering, numerically dominant among students and financially in the university budget.
